VVAPPG hosts open meeting to discuss the quality improvement efforts led by clinicians and surgeons to reduce the risk of loss of limbs and lives.

Meeting Overview

The VVAPPG hosted an open meeting to discuss the quality improvement efforts led by clinicians and surgeons to reduce the risk of loss of limbs and lives.

The session discussed the Peripheral Arterial Disease Quality Improvement Programme (PAD QIP) which was developed to facilitate the implementation of the PAD Quality Improvement Framework (PAD QIF), published by the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland (VSGBI) in April 2019. The aim of the PAD QIP is to improve the quality of care for patients presenting with Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischaemia (CLTI) by ensuring that healthcare professionals across the UK can work collaboratively to facilitate and develop quality improvements.

The meeting aimed to:

  • Raise general awareness of the Peripheral Arterial Disease Quality Improvement Framework (PAD QIF), particularly within payers, providers, and commissioners.

  • Raise visibility on the patient-centric benefits of working within the PAD QIF, particularly in those areas not within the Peripheral Arterial Disease Quality Improvement Programme (PAD QIP) pilot sites.

  • Share experiences of being a pilot site within the PAD QIP.

  • Share experiences of those areas who were not involved in the PAD QIP and learn how they are working to facilitate lower limb salvage quality improvements locally.

During the session, representatives from the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland gave an overview on the development of the Programme, while representatives from York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust outlined their experiences, how they are making improvements to the vascular services they provide both within and outside the QIP, and their plans for the future of the services in their area.
